Meet Jess

Hi, I’m Jess Applin, founder of Cumberland Nanny Company.

As a mom of two, I understand firsthand that finding someone you trust to care for your children is one of the most important—and often most overwhelming—decisions a family can make. My goal is to make that process feel more personal, thoughtful, and supported by connecting families with exceptional caregivers who are the right fit for their individual needs.

I hold a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and have dedicated my career to supporting children and families. I’m also the founder of Growing Littles, a development-based playspace that offers grown-up-and-me classes, new parent support groups, prenatal education, and family events. Through both businesses, I’m passionate about helping families build confidence, connection, and strong foundations during the early years.

While earning my degree I also worked as a part-time nanny. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the special relationship between families and caregivers, as well as the importance of finding a match where everyone can thrive. I understand the perspectives of both families and nannies, and I believe the best placements are built on trust, communication, and shared values.
